BROTHER WILLIAM M. PERKINS

Brother William M. Perkins was born in Montgomery, AL in June of 1968 the seventh of eight siblings.

From his early grade school years at Patterson Elementary through his Jr. High years at Bellingrath Jr. High School, he was constantly involved in family activities, community projects, outdoor activities (target shooting being his favorite), and organized sports with track and field being the most rewarding. In 1984, he began his high school career at Carver High School. While there, he was a member of the Math team, Math club, Teens need Teens, and Army ROTC. He received his high school diploma from Carver High School in 1986.

Brother Perkins enlisted in the Army in 1988 and later retired from the Alabama Army National Guard with 26 years of service. During his tour of duty, he was deployed to the Panama Canal (2 tours), and a tour in Iraq (OIF). While deployed to Iraq, Brother Captain Perkins was the Company Commander for the 1203 rd Engineering Battalion, Dothan, AL. The company conducted 223 dignitary security mission and 62 humanitarian missions. The company traveled some 20,000 miles in the desert stretching from Tikrit, Baghdad to Basra. The unit provided fire suppression as ordered for nearly 10,000 Soldiers and Marines throughout the Central region. With the protection of Almighty God, the entire company return to home station with no fatalities. The company was awarded numerous awards and citations to include the Bronze Star Medal. After the war, Perkins was assigned to Battalion Staff as the S-2 Intelligence Coordinator. He retired in November of 2010. With these many unforeseen obstacles, Brother Perkins completed his college education in 2004 and received his Bachelor of Business Administration from Faulkner University with a 3.3 grade average.

Brother Perkins joined the Montgomery Police Department in 1991 and was promoted up to the rank of Captain. He served as the Bureau Commander for Training and Recruiting and in April of 2009, was selected by newly elected Mayor, Todd Strange, as his Executive Officer. Perkins formed the unit and developed the first ever Standard Operating Procedure for dignitary security for the Montgomery Police Department. In November 2011, Brother Perkins retired from the department with 20 years of dedicated service. Perkins was appointed as the new Executive Director of the Alabama Board of Medical Examiners in August of 2020, and has been with the Board since 2011.

Brother Perkins has been a member of True Divine Baptist Church for 35 years where he serves under the leadership of Pastor Steven D. Huntley. He was ordained as a Deacon in 2012. He is the
church security chief and oversees the operation of the church daycare.

As of March 2000, Perkins has been married to the lovely Lameatrices (Mimi) Perkins, (Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.) and the proud father of two lovely daughters, Shaylyn and Tori.

Brother Perkins entered the folds of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. through the Omega Iota Iota Chapter, on May 27, 2011, along with his brother, Brother Otis Perkins. He has been a very active member of this chapter. He serves in a roll as the assistant Keeper of Records and Seal and the assistant Keeper of Finance. He has chaired and co-chaired projects within the chapter to include: Social Action Committee, Quette Appreciation Program, Chapter Anniversary Committee, Housing Committee, and serves as a Board of Director within Project Perseverance.

He is constantly supporting his chapter brothers along with his brothers from other chapters, as well as other organizations as much as he possibly can. Just to name a few events he has volunteered in assisting include: Easter Egg Hunts, Habitat for Humanity, Read Que Read program, Quesino Night and New Year’s Eve Gala, NSBE Engineering Day, School Clean-up, and the Alabama Kidney Foundation Walk.

Perkins is noted for his aggressive approach and willingness as it pertains to developing sponsorships and donations which are vital to the success of the fraternity’s mandated programs.

Brother Perkins and his wife faithfully contribute portions of their profits from their business to their foundation, “Believing in Kids Early (BIKE)”. They purchase bicycles and distribute them to under privileged youth throughout Montgomery.

Bro. William M. Perkins is going to continue to lend as much of a helping hand as he possibly can and learn from his older brothers the true meaning of “Friendship Is Essential To The Soul”.
